FAQs
- An additional heater can be operated only while the engine is running, e.g. during driving, to improve the vehicle’s heating performance. Additional heaters are available only as OEM devices.
- A pre-heater additionally features an electronic control module, a water pump and a control unit. A full-fledged autonomous heating system of this kind is an eco-friendly choice for pre-heating the vehicle independently of the engine.
It’s almost always worthwhile. Please bear in mind that the driving time after a heating process should be about as long as the previous heating time. Depending on the vehicle, the assumed windshield de-icing time is around 20 to 30 minutes.
Most commonly available passenger car makes on the market can be retrofitted. In individual cases, a specialist workshop must assess whether retrofitting is possible.
- Water heaters of the type exclusively used for passenger cars are particularly convenient for briefly pre-heating vehicles before trips. Additionally, they can be installed in such a way as to be virtually invisible to the driver. The vehicle’s air ducts are used to heat the interior, and the heater is operated by remote control.
- By contrast, air heaters are suitable for applications requiring continuous warmth over a period of several hours – as is typically the case for overnighting in vehicles such as trucks and motor homes.
Yes. The assumed operating duration is 3,000 hours, which experience has shown is rarely exceeded over the course of a typical car’s lifetime.
No. We have already taken on all mandatory approval requirements for general validity on your behalf. The only prerequisite is that installation must be performed by an authorized automotive workshop.
No, the devices are maintenance free if they were installed properly.
Periodic inspection by an expert is usually not necessary. We merely recommend operating the pre-heater at least once per month, even during the summer. Running it for 10 minutes is enough. This way, you’ll always be prepared for the winter ahead.
No, an acceptance test by TÜV is not required as part of the general inspection. However, inspectors are free to perform a brief function check on the pre-heater at their discretion.
You can activate the pre-heater right away using the immediate starting function, or you can pre-program it to start later. Both options are conveniently available from your home.
Either radio remote controls or our EasyStart Web Internet-based control unit can be used for this purpose in passenger cars. This enables operation using virtually any web-enabled device.
An operating time of 20 to 30 minutes is assumed for de-icing the windshield. If you would like to pre-heat the vehicle to a comfortable temperature and de-ice the side windows as well, one hour of operation is usually enough time.
This depends on several factors. The interior will naturally heat up much faster if the engine is not integrated into the heating circuit. If the engine is part of the circuit (depending on the vehicle), this will depend on its size. Large engines take longer to warm up, and heating the interior also takes correspondingly longer. As a general rule, all components should be warm enough after an hour.
Yes, this is generally possible. Modern pre-heaters actually keep running for a few minutes after the engine starts as an automatic protective function. Continued operation usually isn’t necessary after this time.
The coolant temperature can reach 85 °C, as in the engine.
The pre-heater should be operated at least once per month as a rule. During the warm months, 10 minutes of operating time is enough to ensure long-term functionality.
Operation in closed spaces such as garages is not permissible. Fuel operated heaters are not suited as building heating system but authorized exclusively for the use in vehicles.
No, quite the contrary. Their efficiency and clean operating principle help protect resources. Depending on the vehicle, pre-heating the engine along with the interior does not increase the overall fuel consumption. In fact, starting a pre-heated engine can save a significant amount of pollutants compared to the emissions from a cold engine.
We recommend using the automatic heating time calculation function. After you enter your desired departure time, the control unit calculates the ideal heating time, taking into account the current outdoor temperatures, to heat the vehicle as efficiently as possible. The heating process then begins far enough in advance.
The fuel consumption is very low. It ranges from 0.15 to 0.67 liter per hour, depending on the power level. The continuous heating time is usually 30 minutes.
A water heater requires electrical power for the water pump and other consumers. This produces a normal additional load on the vehicle’s battery. However, observing the “heating time = driving time” rule of thumb readily compensates for this extra load.
Modern pre-heaters are optimized for quiet operation. A slight ticking sound of the fuel pump can be heard when the heating process begins. This fades into a quiet, unobtrusive background sound during operation.
A properly installed pre-heater does not produce any perceptible smoke. The small quantities of exhaust gas it produces are visible only under specific weather conditions, as is the case for vehicles as well.
